Liaoning Province & Dalian: The Northern Pearl
Liaoning Province serves as the gateway to Northeast China, a region characterized by its rugged coastline, industrial heritage, and distinct seasons. While much of the province is known for its heavy industry and vast plains, its southern tip offers a completely different atmosphere. Here, on the Liaodong Peninsula, lies the city of Dalian—often called the "Northern Pearl" of China. Dalian is unique among Chinese cities due to its history of Russian and Japanese influence, which is still visible in the architecture of its grand squares and colonial-style streets.
Dalian is celebrated for its fresh sea air, sprawling parks, and dramatic coastal scenery. Unlike the crowded megacities of the south, Dalian feels open and breezy, with its long Binhai Road winding along rocky cliffs overlooking the Yellow Sea. The city is famous for its soccer culture, its high-fashion festivals, and Xinghai Square—the largest city square in the world. From the historic trams clattering through the streets to the modern seafood markets and beach resorts, Dalian and the Liaoning coast offer a sophisticated, maritime perspective on China’s northern frontier.

About this photoalbum
In February 2026, I reorganized my entire collection of photos from my travels in China spanning 2009 to 2025. Previously, the images were sorted by year, with locations nested under each trip. However, analytics show that more than 80% of my visitors come from China and Singapore. For them —and hopefully for many others— I believe this new structure is much more intuitive. The photos are now organized by location, with provinces and major cities as the primary categories. Under each destination, you will find subfolders for the specific years and months of my visits.
