We had the opportunity to visit a suitcase factory while we were in Dongguan in July 2014. The factory was one of the last of its kind labor-intensive companies in Dongguan, as most had moved to China's western provinces. The workers were mainly migrant workers and it was difficult for the company to retain them for more than a few years, after which most would return to their villages and start their own businesses with the money they had earned.
Board and lodging were included in the employment. Most of them wanted to work overtime, as the goal was to earn as much as possible in the shortest possible time.
